Two Truths & a Lie

I don't know what you want me to say.
   Things have not been easy.
How can I want something so damn bad and fall short every single time?
Honest to God, all I want is someone to love me for me and me to do the same.
It kills me that I can't find someone to appreciate me and the love I can give.
There has to be some kind of attraction and chemistry, but I'm pretty flex from there.
I'm afraid I'm going to be alone forever.
I'm afraid no one is ever going to love me the way I want and need so badly.

I've been contacted by a couple of exes recently.
It wasn't the first time, and it definitely won't be the last.
An apology I've been waiting years for was finally given and helped with needed closure.
But when he contacted me, he threw my anxiety out of whack.
I should be used to this by now...exes apologizing or telling me they regret past mistakes.
Every single one of my exes has done it at some point or another.
I made a lot of mistakes myself - I was young and immature back in the day.

The other contact was just as unexpected.
Not that I haven't thought about him in the last few weeks, few months, few years.
He used to be my best friend, someone I could spend countless hours on the phone with.
There were times we would call each other and just breathe, not even talk.
He asked how we could go from something so great to nothing.
I made a lot of mistakes when I was younger - I took a lot of things for granted...people.
When he contacted me, it brought back the memories we've had.
I ended up writing a song about him shortly after called Doomed.
The lyrics are kind of sad actually, 'She's everything to you, I'll never be.."

Hopefully someday I will be everything to someone.
I've been single for so long, I'm not even sure what kind of a girlfriend I'd be.
What kind of a wife I'd be.
But I definitely want the chance for either.
Loneliness has not been the kindest to me this year.
I'm so overdue on any kind of affection, it's incredible.
Why do all guys my age on dating apps all want the same thing?
Why do I have to be so damn unlovable?

The Monster Ball Anthology is LIVE + Bonus Content & Giveaway!

Blurb:
It's that time again! The Monster community is abuzz with whispers of the most anticipated party of the year. The deliciously exclusive event, has tongues wagging even amongst the who's who of the Monster community. It will once again be held at an undisclosed location on All Hallows Eve.

Don't worry all you underprivileged socialites, The Monster Ball isn't just for vampires, witches, and werewolves.  Other creatures of the night have as much of a chance to attend. Watch for your ticket, but not in the mail. The silvery slip of parchment is said to appear in your hand by the light of the moon.

If you find yourself a fortunate recipient, best to keep it to yourself. There are some who would kill for the chance to attend.  Because, as every good monster knows...what happens at the ball, stays at the ball

xoxo, Elvira

Bonus Content:

Hello #MonsterNation, it’s your girl Elvira with some fangtastic news! Another ball has come and gone, but the questions surrounding the party still exist! Loyal fans of Monster Nation know that I've been trying to track down the ball's mysterious Proprietor for many years. Who is The Proprietor? It's the question we Monsters have been dying to know. Now, I promised all our loyal fans an exclusive you don't want to miss, and I wasn't kidding! I have found The Proprietor!....apparently. Why apparently, you ask?

Come closer and I'll tell you. I have no actual recollection of this interview. Neither does my camera man, Carl. Though we've searched everywhere, we haven't found any video footage we undoubtedly would have taken.
All that remains is the audio from our encounter. What you are about to read are the transcripts from our EXCLUSIVE interview with The Monster Ball Proprietor. Remember, you heard it here first! xoxo
***
[rustling can be heard]
Elvira-- Carl, I see movement! Are we recording?
Carl-- We are green. Camera's rolling.
Elvira--I’m coming to you live from an undisclosed location as we await the arrival of the creator of The Monster Ball! You heard that right boys and gouls. If our sources are correct, we’ll soon be face to face with the elusive creator of the Monster community’s hottest event of the year. You heard that right, The Proprietor! How did I figure it out? That's one secret I'll never tell.
[shuffling and muffled curses can be heard]
Elvira--Dammit, Carl! My dress is caught on this branch. A little help please?!
[the sounds of the camera jostling and a twig snapping can be heard]
Elvira - Thanks, Carl.
[a screen door slams shut and the sound of feet rapidly moving on stairs is audible]
Proprietor - Are you fucking kidding me? Elvira, are you seriously hiding in my bushes?
[camera jostling, branches snapping and delicate curses are heard]
Elvira - Ow. That's right! It's your girl, Elvira. But you already knew that. What our audience doesn't know, is who you are. But that's all—
[a single snap can be heard. Then the sounds of cupboards slamming shut]
Elvira - Where are we?! Are we in your kitchen?
Proprietor -Yeah, because I'm going to let you out me on my front lawn, Elvira.
[a chair topples and the sound of broken glass can be heard]
Elvira--I KNEW you were The Proprietor! I've got so many questions. Why do you keep your identity a secret? If I was throwing a party as spectacular as yours, I'd make sure everyone knew it was me—
Proprietor - Elvira, I swear to the gods..... If you say one more word before I've finished my coffee, I. Will. Kill. You!
Elvira - I'll just clean this up while I wait.
Proprietor - Don't bother. I've got it.
[another snap rings through the room]
Elvira - Well, that's handy.
Proprietor - Magic. Remember? Now, go sit your ass on my couch and leave me in peace for five minutes and I'll give you your damn interview.
[heels click along the floor]
Proprietor - Seriously? Take Carl with you! And don't snoop through my shit!

***

Elvira - Are you ready?
Proprietor - Almost. Just need my...
[snap sounds loudly]
Proprietor - Blanket. There. I'm ready now.
Elvira--Do you have to snap to work your magic?
Proprietor - No. I just like being a little extra sometimes. I mean, you’ve heard of the extravagance that is The Monster Ball. Need I say more?
Elvira - Well, let's get started shall we?
Proprietor - Wait. I have two rules. You will never tell anyone who I am. I'll make sure of that, but I'm going to let you have this little interview in hopes that you will leave me alone after this. I have a life. I choose to remain anonymous for a reason. You will not disrupt my life again. Got it?
Elvira - Um, yes. Of course.
Proprietor - All right. Let's get this over with. I'm a little grumpy. I just spent the night expending a lot of magic. I need to rest. And who the hell is awake at this hour anyway?
Elvira - You know, you're not at all what I was expecting. I was anticipating someone more...
Proprietor - Glamorous? Would it make you feel better if I looked like this?
[snap followed by the rustling of fabric]
Elvira - Whoa! That red dress is to die for!
[snap. The sound of something dropping to a chair is heard followed by a snort and  the sound of a spoon stirring in a glass]
Proprietor - I don't dress like that all the time, Elvira. Who the hell wants to walk around in ballgowns every….er….Right, you do. I mean, you totally rock it. I just live a relatively low key life, well, aside from the ball.
Elvira - Now we're back to the good stuff! You throw the Monster Community's hottest event of the year! Why don't you want people to know that you're The Proprietor? You're almost as famous as I am, but you don't want anyone to know…
[ giggling sounds]
Elvira - It just doesn't make any sense.
[a deep sigh and springs squeaking]
Proprietor - I don't want to be famous. I guess some people think, throwing The Monster Ball must mean that I like attention, but it really quite the opposite. Everyone thinks of the perks of being “The Proprietor” but nobody ever stops to think about the downside.
Elvira - What could possibly be bad about the fame that would come with announcing yourself?
Proprietor - The Monster Ball as you have so eloquently put it is “the hottest event of the year,” but that doesn't mean it's necessarily sanctioned. We do our best to keep the secret of Monsters but, just this year we had to handle two assassination attempts, multiple fights, and a rather unfortunate…. mess. Right now, we keep out the worst of the Monster Community. What do you imagine would happen to the ball if people knew how to find me? What do you imagine would happen to me?
Elvira - Wow. I suppose you're right. I've never really thought about it from that perspective. Why don't we try a fun question then? Why Halloween? You could have chosen any day, so why did you choose the day that's so important to so many in the Monster Community? In the beginning, it couldn't have been easy convincing people to come on such an important night.
Proprietor - That's easy. It's my birthday.
[something rattles on wood and muttering is barely discernable]
Elvira - The Monster Ball is your birthday party?!
Proprietor - Damnit, Elvira. Are you going to break everything in my house before you go?
[a long pause]
Proprietor - I can see the question swirling in those eyes of yours. Yes. The Monster Ball is essentially my birthday party.
Elvira - Why don't you demand gifts? I'd sooooooooo demand gifts. You'd make out like a god.
Proprietor - Oh, trust me. Everyone who attends the ball gives me a little gift.
Elvira - What do you…
Proprietor - Nope. Hard pass on that one, Toots.
Elvira - But
Proprietor - Hard pass, Fool.
[a stomp can be heard before a soft thud]
Proprietor - Did you seriously just stomp your foot like a three year old? Carl, does that work for her often?
Carl - You'd be surprised.
[snorting]
Elvira - If you two are quite finished, I'd like to get on with this interview.
Proprietor - Don't be so sensitive. Come on, hit me with your next question.
Elvira - The Monster Ball has a reputation for bringing a lot of people together. How do you manage so many matches each year?
Proprietor - Sorry Elvira, but to steal your own line… That's one secret I'll never tell.
Elvira - I should trademark that, but I don't want to be perceived as cocky.
[laughter sounds]
Elvira - I know it's not really a polite question, but what kind of Monster are you? The amount of magic required for the ball means that you must be very powerful, but sitting with you I can't tell what exactly you are. I don't think I've ever encountered someone like you before.
[a low whistle rings out]
Proprietor - Damn, girl. I can't believe you went there. I am indeed a unique monster, but what is between my parents and myself. Since you have lady balls, I will give you a little something on this question though. The Monster Ball may be my baby, but I do have help. It requires the magic of three in order to be successful.
Elvira - You have help?! Who?
Proprietor - Sorry, Elvira. That's not my secret to tell. Now, as much as I've enjoyed our time together, I think it's time for us to be saying goodbye. Carl, you're one weird, quiet dude. It was a pleasure, but I need some sleep before I turn into a raging witch.
[muffled sounds and heels click]
Elvira - Wait, I want you to know that I have decided to keep your secret.
Proprietor - Uh, what?
Elvira - Oh, don't act so surprised. I'm not a total bat. Your little speech got to me. The Monster Ball is much better off if you keep your secret.
Proprietor - Wow. I really didn't expect that from you, Elvira. I feel kinda shitty now to be honest. I want you to know that I really appreciate it, and when you realize what I've done, please know it was only as a precaution.
Elvira - When you do what?
Proprietor - This.
[a reverberating snap sounds]
***
Well, there you have it, boys and gouls. Our exclusive interview with The Monster Ball’s mysterious Proprietor! I hope we cleared up a few questions about the spooktacular event, and for all those questions that remain….. There's always next year. You know you love me.
xoxo

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (The Real Life Version)

.The Unrequited.
You were never mine, and I think that was part of the appeal. I don't know that you ever cared about me in the same way, but I genuinely hope you're happy.

.The Player.
You came in and out of my life for so many years, it almost became expected. After a rough patch which was well deserved, you are doing amazing for yourself. And you know what the fucked up part about all of this is? That I still root for your happiness. Even after everything you put me through. Well done, Player.

.The Best Friend.
Timing was never on our side, and maybe that's the point. No matter how much I wanted it, no matter how much I wanted you - we weren't meant to be. Everything happens for a reason, right? You will always be my biggest 'what if?'.

.The Devil.
You weren't a good person, but I can admit I made mistakes too. The scars you left on me lingered for years after we weren't together. I can only hope you haven't found any other victims to prey on.

.The Unattainable.
You hated commitment for the longest time. All I wished for was you to man up and choose me. It never worked out and now we both know why. She's perfect for you and I couldn't be happier. You deserve everything and more. Congrats on the double trouble.

.The Unexpected.
I still think about you from time to time. I wonder what you're doing. Where you're at. I have the biggest regrets about our relationship and the mistakes I made. You weren't perfect either, but I loved you with everything I had.

Publishing Date: October 11, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Photographer: Periwinkle Photographer

He’s a player.
He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.
Who better to teach me to play than the master himself?
I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick.
But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.
There’s so much I don’t know.
Like the fact that I’m only a bet.
But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through.
And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. KIRA ADAMS HAS A NEW HOME!

I can't believe I'm about to say this. After five years of publishing, I finally caved and got a website for my books. Luckily, one of my coworkers is a website designer, so it wasn't difficult to achieve. He was able to implement all of my changes and even though it's only 95% done - I still can't wait to share it with you all!

Check it out

I can't believe I finally have the domain I've always wanted. I can't believe I did it! To top it all off, I also splurged on a second website from a second designer for DarienMae. Again, six years later, but hopefully it will all be worth it. That website is about 85% done - but again, I can't wait to share it with you all.

Check it out here

Things are happening. Things are finally taking place. I can't help but wonder where I will be in another year. Will Jesse and I finally be in the same state? Will I have released my 15th book by then? The sky is the limit. Anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it and don't give up. Just a little Tuesday inspiration. <3 font="">

Don't Wish for It, Work for It.

I'm terrible. You don't have to tell me. I'm fully aware.

In other news, I'm alive! :) But, really - it's been awhile and things have happened. Tons of exciting things I'm dying to share with you all.

First things first...drum roll, please! I finished my 14th book! It's crazy to say, and I'm still having doubts, but it's done. After more than a year of writing Tobin's story when I could, it's finally out in the world. Not fully. It's currently in the hands of my many trusted betas. And oh my gosh, let me tell you the feedback they've been giving me is AMAZING! I cannot wait for you guys to experience this story. It's so near and dear to my heart.

Also, last time I updated on here I was still living my apartment, but we finally moved into our house! I love it so, so much. I don't even have the master bedroom, but I love my bedroom all the same. It's considered a Jr. Master and it's great for me. No shared bathroom? Yes, please. My roommates Karen and Sabrina aren't too shabby either. They let me do me and I do the same for them.

A few weeks ago, I was able to go home to Oregon for a week and see my friends and family. Recently, my sister in law found out she has Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 2. She started chemo on Monday and is planning to shave her head by the weekend. It's been really tough on her, but I've been worried about my brother. He's so strong, but who is there for him? He has two little ones running around who are clueless about their mother's illness. It's hard being in another state and unable to help. Her cancer is totally beatable and she is going to kick it in the butt. I'm really proud of her. She's been blogging about her journey. You can find it here

When I was in Oregon, my music partner Darien and I went into the studio and recorded three songs along with a photo shoot. We are still deciding on our faves, but here's a few samples!

We also recorded an unofficial music video for our new song, Wolves. Very amateur, just us filming each other in a cool park in Oregon...however it's already over 450 views! None of our other videos have exceeded 40 views. And we have been getting really great feedback from it. If I didn't think we were something special before, I definitely believe it now.

We are still in two completely different states - but we make it work and worthwhile each and every time we get together. Hopefully someday the music can bring us together again so we can actually perform.

I'm still single and hoping that I am not going to be forever. Maybe one day I can find someone who is meant for me just as much as I am for them. My best friend. Someday.

Sneak Peek: The Life I Never Asked For

I've been writing a new book lately, and I'm about 40k words in. I still have a bit to go, but I am happy with the progress I have made. I officially began writing this story in August of last year and have been slowly adding to it ever since. Enjoy!

I’ll never forget their greyish-blue eyes, the one dimple on the left side of both their cheeks and their smell.
It’s not fair. Life is a bitch.
I had it all, and in the blink of an eye, it was taken from me. Every longing stare, every kiss on those soft and ticklish feet. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone…except I knew what I had. I had everything.
Waking up without them the first time was hard, and it’s only getting harder. The hole inside of my chest feels bigger and deeper with each passing day. I can’t bear to touch their belongings. I can hardly even look at them.
I pick up the phone and even though I know I shouldn’t, I dial his number. The one I’ve had memorized since he asked me out junior year. It rings like normal. Once. Two times. Three times. And then like clockwork, his answering machine picks up. My heart begins racing, anticipating what is to come. His voice makes me melt in a puddle, paralyzing me until the last syllable.
“Hey, you must have missed me. Leave a message after the beep.”
I take a deep breath, attempting to calm the tornado in my stomach. “I know…I know…” I stammer ashamed. “I shouldn’t be calling you. I just…wanted to hear your voice.” I pause, staring at the floor. “I wish you would tell me what to do; how to move on from this.” Before I can form another thought, tears are pouring down my cheeks.
“I miss you…” My voice cracks and then the automated female asks if I’m satisfied with my message or if I’d like to rerecord. Choosing the latter, I hang up instead.
The darkness has become my only friend and solace so packing has been, well, stunted. Not to mention the fact that I haven’t been alone in almost a month. Everything feels surreal. Being back here, but they aren’t. It feels wrong.

There's No Quit in Win

She lives!

No, but really. I'm alive and kicking. I'm sure you already deduced that, but still.

It's less than a month away from my 32nd birthday. I'm unsure what I want to do. It will be the first time in over two years that I won't go home to celebrate. Seeing as I just got back from Hawaii a couple of weeks ago, I don't feel comfortable leaving again like that for a while.

Hawaii was nice for the most part. I went with a friend and we stayed in her cousin's Air B&B and a hotel. We went on a booze cruise, but because we're both grandma's we both got seasick. The only time I didn't feel sick was when we got to get off the boat and go snorkeling. That was a lot of fun. We also went in a submarine, again got seasick towards the end, but still a pretty cool experience. Went to a wine tasting at a pretty vineyard. I got sick the last day in Hawaii and didn't get to experience the Road to Hana, but all in all, it was a pretty fun trip. I don't feel like I got to do many things for me, so I think next time I go on vacation, I'd like to make that a priority at least. Like swim with dolphins or zipline. Things like that are really fun for me.

I was just in LA on Tuesday for a big event and it went really well. One of the artist's from The Voice, Morgan Mallory opened for One Republic at a corporate event I booked him at. It was an awesome event and I am happy I got this booking for him. Lately, I've been at a lot of corporate events with headline entertainment. Martina McBride, Pitbull, and now One Republic. I feel like things can only go up from here.

Tomorrow my coordinator and I are going to San Francisco to hold auditions. This is my favorite part of my job. Getting to actually get my hands dirty with scouting new potentials. There is so much talent all over and most of the time I scout them blind meaning I don't see them perform until they have done a booking with us. That's how I sell 75% of my talent. It generally works out. But this is so much more exciting getting to see exactly what we are selling and even tape them to show to the rest of my team.

Apart from these two trips, I'll be tethered to Vegas for the unforeseeable future. I'm still single and not really trying much with the dating websites anymore. I just feel really let down. I feel like I am losing hope. At what point do you admit defeat and stop trying? Stop looking? Cause that's just about where I'm at.

I haven't been feeling 100% either, so I haven't been my usual social self. I really want to quit drinking as alcohol and me do not agree. My body does not like alcohol and I always feel pressured to drink. I need to put my foot down and just say no for good. Update: I have been off of alcohol for just about 2 weeks. It's not easy saying no all the time, but I think it's better for me.

In a little less than a month and a half, my roommate and I will be moving out of our apartment and looking for a house. I am hoping that I will be able to find something and be approved. My whole goal is to get a house as I've been saving up for quite some time now. I just want to rent, not own. I really hope everything works out for me. I hate the idea of moving.

I know I'm just rambling at this point, but I rather enjoy coming back and reading these status updates months or years later - so this is mainly for that. And also all you creepers out there. ;-) You know who you are.

Synopsis:
Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again.
After seventeen years together, he walked away from me, and into the arms of another.
I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know my worth. I didn’t know how to exist without him by my side.
All I wanted was for him to come back to me.
Then, Jackson Emery appeared.
He was supposed to be a distraction for my mind. A summer fling. A confidence boost to my bruised heart.
We were perfect for one another, because we both knew we wouldn’t last. Jackson didn’t believe in commitment, and I no longer believed in love. He was too young for me, and I was too damaged for him.
Everything was fine, until one night my heart skipped a beat.
I didn’t expect him to make me laugh. To make me think. To make my sadness somewhat disappear.
When our time was up, my heart didn’t know how to walk away.
Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again, yet slowly my prayers began to shift toward the man who wasn’t right for me.
I prayed for one more smile, one more kiss, one more laugh, one more touch…
I prayed for him to be mine.
Even though I knew his heart wasn’t destined to love.
